Art Courses in Crete

Why not try something different  during your stay at Footscapes? Just a short walk away from us, in the village of Kastellos, you will find the Crete International Visual Art Studios, run by Janice Hunter and Tim Saville. Janice and Tim offer short study courses in painting, drawing and 3 dimensional studies, with a wide degree of flexibility in terms of course content and structure. Courses can be either studio - based or outdoors in the Cretan landscape. Fees are by arrangement, at around 10 Euros per hour per participant based on a group of 4. One to one tuition can be organised.

Janice studied drawing and painting on the BA Fine Art course followed by an MA in Design, specialising in Theatre Studies at Glasgow School of Art, UK. Tim studied sculpture and ceramics on the BA course at Camberwell School of Art, London. They have been teaching in Cairo and Athens for 6 years and having returned to their home near Rethymno are now establishing CIVAS to offer courses in drawing, painting and 3 dimensional studies. Tim has exhibited his work both in Cairo and Athens. His paintings, ceramics and relief constructions reflect his interest in ancient Mediterranean seafaring and unidentifiable archaeological discoveries in Egypt.

Drawing and painting skills are taught in a variety of contexts: the figure, the object, the place.
They can be tailored to suit the diverse needs of individuals and cater for a wide range of ages and experience.
• Those at the beginning of their artistic journey who have not felt confident to develop their interest without practical instruction in skills.
• Cretan residents and visitors seeking further enrichment through practical involvement in the Visual Arts.
• Students of Art wishing to develop their portfolio for Greek and International Art school applications.
• Young people from Crete and around the world wishing to extend their intercultural dialogue.
• Teachers of the Visual Arts looking to extend their own practice through exposure to diverse creative stimulus.
